Se añade una coma después de "run" en la versión 2018. Esto afecta mínimamente la lectura, dando una pausa rítmica más marcada.
Aquí hay un cambio total de imagen poética. “bottles and the bones of the night” sugiere un ambiente nocturno caótico, urbano, algo etílico o decadente. “after that long goodnight” remite a una despedida o quizás incluso a la muerte ("the long goodnight" es un eufemismo clásico para morir).
Ambas versiones mantienen la frase ambigua: "Like a pencil point? A love bite?" Pero en la 2018 aparece como: Was like a pencil point? A love bite? Se añade "was" al inicio, quizás para completar mejor la métrica.
Cambio importante en la estrofa final: De una banda de blues (música tradicional, analógica, humana) pasamos a un DJ (música digital, electrónica). La descripción sonora también cambia: en 1990 “la música sufre”, pero “el negocio musical prospera”.En 2018, el "sub-bajo" y el "tono agudo" cortante dan una sensación física e inmediata, casi violenta. Esto podría reflejar la evolución del sonido y de la industria musical entre 1990 y 2018.
